KWIC index

A type of index, arranged alphabetically, in which each significant word in a string of text serves as an access point, by being graphically emphasized and surrounded by the rest of the string. The keyword is generally in a centered column and is followed on the right by the continuation of the string, which provides the context. The balance of the string, if any, is positioned to the left of the keyword.
