A term that is a different word form for another term, such as spelling differences, grammatical variation, and abbreviations (for example, watercolor and water-colour). Lexical variants are considered as and grouped with synonyms in a vocabulary record, but they technically differ from synonyms in that synonyms are different terms for the same concept.
