pre-coordinate indexing
system of indexing in which the preferred terms chosen to represent the subject of a document are syntactically combined in one or more sequences representing the only combinations available for retrieval purposes.
Pre-coordinate indexing is commonly used for the index at the back of a book or other ordered lists of subjects or resources.
