Health Reform Task Force

Health Reform Task Force
The Health Care System Reform Task Force includes 11 members from both the Senate and the House from both parties. The task force met formally nine times in 2008 between April and December. The task force is co-chaired by Sen. Allen M. Christensen and Rep. James A. Dunnigan and is assisted by Mark D. Andrews, Policy Analyst; Catherine J. Dupont, Associate General Counsel; and John T. Nielsen, Advisor to the Governor on Health System Reform.

Note: There is a note on the Lieutenant Governor's website that states "The Lt. Governor's Health Care Reform Task Force focuses on Federal Affordable Care Act (ACA) employer mandates, and how the ACA will impact the state's workforce and budget."
The 2008 legislature passed H.B. 133 as the centerpiece for guiding health system reform efforts. The bill passed both houses unanimously and was signed by Governor Huntsman on March 19, 2008. The part of H.B. 133 known as the “Health System Reform Act” created the Office of Consumer Health Services in the Governor’s Office of Economic Development and charged them to serve as the coordinating entity for the executive branch’s efforts to assist the legislature in health system reform. The Act also established the Health System Reform Legislative Task Force to develop and implement the strategic plan.
