Executive Branch Ethics Commission

Executive Branch Ethics Commission
The Governor's Executive Branch Ethics Commission was created by S.B. 86 (2013) Independent Executive Branch Ethics Commission. The Commission consists of two former elected officials, one former judge and two citizens appointed by the Governor. Terms lengths are determined by random selection. The Commission has investigative power to inspect complaints of high crimes, misdemeanors and malfeasance within office. The Commission can conduct investigations against the governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, auditor and treasurer. It has subpoena power to call witnesses and produce evidence, but does not have the authority to conduct criminal investigations. The Commission can only investigate formal complaints filed on and after May 13, 2013. The first commissioners, Val Oveson, Carol Nixon, Anthony Schofield, Corey Hodges and Lorie Fowlke were appointed by Governor Gary R. Herbert on June 21, 2013.
